Dads. Most people have one.

And for those that do most have daddy issues,

which manifest in manifold ways via strain communication,

abuse, emotional distance, or in total absence,

tragically though, most don't have a platform

through which to monetize these wounds.

Thankfully, that wasn't the case for my man Bart Millard.

For Bart was shrewd enough to turn his daddy issue lemons

into daddy lemonade for all the daddies across this great nation

that goped down by the gallon.

The circle of dad life, from pain to profit rose

in the new American Christian standard.

I can only imagine.

I can only imagine was first recorded independently

by Bart's band Mercy Me in 1999,

and again, on a major record label in 2001.

If you're not familiar, the song was inspired by the death of Bart's father,

and the end result is two verses in a course of heavenly speculation.
