Hi, Dr. Laura.

I'm calling today because I want to know if it's fair for me to blame my mother.

We're not doing enough to save my father when he died last week.

And give me an idea of what you believe she should have done that might have saved him last week.

Um, he was 73 and he had a blood clot that got stuck in his artery in his heart.

So he basically had a heart attack due to the blood clot happen about 3 a.m. So in the middle of the night.

This is all the story that she told me he got up and went to the bathroom and came back in and said he was having chest pain sat down on the bed and she said she looked over and he was unconscious with his mouth open and not breathing.

And she kind of freaked out went to the phone called 911 and they told her to get them on the ground and start doing CPR and she told them that she couldn't do it.

Like she was basically having a breakdown.

And the 911 operator convinced her she said you have to do this. You have to and she finally got them on the ground and started doing chest compression, but did not do.

Breathing into his mouth.

And the 911 or they got there the ambulance and they used a desibulator on his heart got his heart pumping again.

Got him to the hospital and he had surgery to clear his arteries and his heart, they got his heart working again fine.

We found out the next day that he was basically brain dead because he did not receive oxygen to his brain for over 10 minutes.

And he was not going to recover and we took him on the board.

Where did you get CPR training? Where did you get it? And where did your mother get it?

We neither one of us had had CPR training.

And your mother is how old?

She is 64.

And is she by nature a very calm or very reactive person? What is she mostly like?
