Nicolas Maduro and his wife Celia Flores appeared in a U.S. court in New York City earlier today following the illegal kidnapping of Venezuela's president.

Donald Trump has now acknowledged that he consulted with U.S. oil monopolies before and after the attack on Venezuela.

The U.S. Congress did not authorize this attack,

and Trump, while consulting with oil company executives,

refused to even brief Congress.

Layan, the world is in a state of shock, I think, people in Latin America, especially Venezuela.

Initially in a state of shock, when the U.S. military went in, killed so many people in Venezuela,

bombed different civilian neighborhoods in Caracas in the middle of the night,

Saturday night, Sunday morning, kidnapped the president of Venezuela and his wife,

put him in handcuffs and blindfolded him, brought him on a U.S. military aircraft.

I mean, it's so, you know, reminiscent of what used to

happen in the Roman Empire when rebellious slaves in the colonies were, you know, taken into custody,

brought back to Rome, put on trial, maybe brought to the Coliseum. This is old style imperialism,

the kind of imperialism that goes back to antiquity

that was very reminiscent of the 18th and 19th century, the early part of the 20th century.

The U.S. government was clearly hoping that the fall of Maduro would mean the fall of the

Venezuelan government. That has not happened. People in Venezuela are

railing behind the government. The government is trying to find a way to sort of mitigate the current
