Welcome back to Young Heretics.

Today I want to talk to you about the most as news junkies like me know it's an election

year there are wars abroad there are intra right wing spats going

on on Twitter and if you want my up to the minute opinion on you know every latest political controversy

God knows why you would but if you want that I refer you to my Twitter account

which is just Spencer Clavin on X you can follow me there and I will mouth off there about this and that but that's

not what this show is about.

The point of this show is not to respond, reactively to every headline and one of the beautiful things about it

is it's kind of become a space for you and me

to gather and become part of this larger fellowship,

what I sort of think of as the secret society of the Western

canon, that people throughout time and space, and in this great tradition that we call the West. People have been contemplating the highest things, how to live well, how to live the good life and what our purpose in the universe is.

And by some miracle, they wrote those thoughts down and some of those

thoughts have survived for us so that it becomes like this fellowship, like entering into a grand company that stretches across centuries and

that this show is like a little room where we get to meet together with all of those

great minds around us and and think about eternal things, highest things,

and ultimate questions.

So that's the new story that I want to be paying most attention to, is not the one perhaps that will have like

flashed across your social media feed or shown up on real clear politics but one that

I think actually might be super important and it has to do with

telescopes. If you've been following along with the show you know that we just kind of

finished a stretch where we were talking together about magic and science.
