113 years ago, a cookie was born.

It would go on to become the best-selling cookie in the world.

Today, Oreos are sold in more than 100 countries around the world,

and flavors including wasabi, Swedish fish, and green tea.

But four years before Oreos came out,

there was a different company based in Kansas City that first thought to pair two chocolate cookies with vanilla cream. Yeah, did you know that Hydrox is the original cream-filled chocolate cookie?

Hydrox cookies, a creation of prolific Kansas City philanthropist Jacob Luce,

were incredibly popular in the early 1900s.

So why is it that more than a century later, one cookie is America's favorite,

while the one that came first is basically unknown?

Not only was Oreo, this copycat of Hydrox,

it was also built on the back of the company that
