Hurricane Helene is heading for Florida likely to make landfall this evening.

Helene is now expected to hit as an extremely dangerous category 4 storm.

Forecasters say it'll be a powerful and unusually large hurricane that could be catastrophic with possible record storm

surge, damaging winds and flooding rainfall.

Florida's Big Bend region, where the peninsula curves into the panhandle, is expected to get the worst of it.

There a storm surge that could reach as high as 20 feet above ground level is possible.

And that's when the high winds push the ocean water ashore, taking over otherwise dry ground.

Reports say that amount of surge is unheard of

for any residents in the region,

and evacuations in that area
