Summary

The beginning of 2019 was a little rough for me. To everyone else, it looked like I was living my best life. Traveling from Spain and Paris to Austin and Los Angeles; working hard and living it up. I was struggling. Being on-the-go constantly made it hard for me to keep up with my healthy habits, and I fell into somewhat of a rut. As a result, I realized in early March that I wasn’t proud of how I was talking to myself. In today's #hurdlemoment, I open up about that struggle and how I got through it. I share with you the four strategies I used to shift the dialogue, eliminate negative self talk, and get back to being the Emily that I love. The Emily that’s proud of the woman she’s become, and accepts that every day is a work in progress. Welcome back to hurdle, a podcast that talks to everyone from top CEOs and entrepreneurs to athletes about how they got through tough times, hurdles of sorts, by leaning into wellness. It's Wednesday, which means you are listening to another hurdle moment for the smaller obstacles we deal with each and every day. This week, I'm talking about getting

0:22.8

rid of negative self-talk. It's something I definitely struggle with, that little voice in my head

0:28.5

that can be super, super critical. Of course, I am a huge advocate for being your own biggest fan,

0:35.0

and I'm constantly working on building myself up in order

0:37.7

to be the best version of myself for the people around me.

0:41.3

But that doesn't mean that the voice doesn't kick in every now and again.

0:44.7

Whether it's at the office and you're doubting that you're the right person to take on some new,

0:48.5

exciting project, or perhaps it's one of those face yourself in the mirror moments where it's

0:53.0

easy to be a little less than nice about how something fits or looks or whatever.

0:58.6

Negative talk happens.

Recently, I went through something which triggered today's hurdle moment episode.

1:05.0

It was about a travel that ended in mid-March and during trips from Los Angeles to Austin and Abiza and Paris in so many wonderful places,

1:13.2

I lost some compassion for me. In the process, I had honestly gained a little bit of weight,

1:19.4

and I soon realized that the way that I was talking to myself, well, it's not really how I'd

1:23.9

want to talk to anybody else. The good news in all this is that I've been able to

1:28.0

flip the script. And that's what we're talking about today. I try often to give you guys as many

1:33.6

takeaways as possible. And today I'm talking openly about my experience. I'm getting vulnerable

1:38.9

with you because I'm hoping that if you're dealing with something like this right now, or if you've

1:44.1

dealt with something like this in now, or if you've dealt

1:44.4

with something like this in the past, that you know that you're not alone and that maybe I can

1:49.5

help you too get over your own hurdle.
