It's World Vegan Day, apparently. What better way to celebrate is to get a high-profile editors sack from a magazine because of an email sent as a joke? What's that you say?

We've already done that? Oh, okay. The case of William Sitwell is already front-page news in this

brave new world inhabited by the permanently offended, the serially serious and the

indefatigably earnest. People are now actually justifying the actions of the freelance grass,

because that's what she is, who made the email public. And some are calling it all a marketing

blunder in the very week when Waitrose was trying to court vegans. You might actually argue

that Waitrose have never had better publicity for veganism in their entire existence, but that's another conspiracy theory which we would not wish to purport here.

How exactly did we lose our sense of humour and is there any chance we can get it back, please?

And since it's obviously wrong to hunt and trap vegans, what can we actually do with them?

I don't expect to be fired for asking that question.
