Today's story takes us to the far northern edge of Omaha, to a place known as Hummel Park.

To the average hiker, it appears to be a beautiful 200-acre stretch of woodland, defined by steep

bluffs, deep ravines, and sweeping views of the Missouri River.

It's the kind of place people visit for quiet trails and a break from the city,

a natural escape that feels far removed from the neighborhoods just a few miles away.

But for the people who live in Omaha, Hummel Park carries a very different reputation.

It is described as a place where the landscape itself feels unsettled, where trees appear

to grow at unnatural angles, where staircases seem to defy consistency, and where something

unseen is said to move just beyond the edge of visibility.

Stories about what exists within that part have circulated for decades, passed from one

generation to the next, involving over time but never fully disappearing.

Those stories became much harder to dismiss in the mid-2000s.

On a Tuesday afternoon in November of 2005, a 12-year-old girl named Amber Harris followed

a routine that thousands of children carry out every single day.

She got off the school bus and began the short walk home, a path that should have taken

only a few minutes and ended with the familiar sounds

of a house settling into the evening. Earlier that day, she had spoken with her father, who told

her to come straight home. She never arrived. As the sun lowered over North Omaha, the absence

became noticeable and undeniable. The house remained quiet and the

normal markers of a return never came. The family contacted authorities and what followed was an

extensive search effort that stretched on for months, drawing law enforcement and volunteers who

combed through the area across the city in the hope of finding any sign of her.
