A.W. Tozer once wrote this. I've met two classes of Christians, the proud who imagine they are humble and the humble who are afraid they are proud. What I find fascinating is how many times we do things that we consider to be acts of humility that it really just covers for something far different that is happening in us. For instance, I hear from people all the time who say that they

feel called by God to do something, but they struggle to want to, quote, promote their work.

0:29.0

It might feel like the more humble way to not talk about it or hide it, but it's not really about

0:36.3

humility. I want to not really about humility.

0:39.3

I want to talk more about this.

Other aspects of false humility, and what I used to think made me more humble in my work,

0:47.7

it turns out wasn't about humility at all.

conversation altogether for a long time. I thought at the time that it was just braggadocious

when the publishers require you to talk a lot about the book that you're releasing or the work

1:36.3

that you're doing, I would release a book and people wouldn't even know because I felt it was more

1:43.4

humble to not talk about it. And then once my

1:47.9

little hobby of writing increased and jumped to becoming a real job making real income, then I shied

1:57.8

away from any conversation about the financial aspect about it because I felt that

2:04.5

talking about money made me somehow not this humble servant of Jesus in my work. If I was attaching

2:14.4

any of my work to an income, especially since my work was centered on talking

2:19.9

or writing about Jesus, it was watering down what I was doing for the Lord. And I just want to say

2:26.9

wholeheartedly, I used to think that, but I don't think that anymore. And in fact, I really

2:33.2

believe that the Lord himself delivered me from that

2:35.8

mindset that was not only fruitful, but mistaken. And it caused really some great inner turmoil
