My guest today is one of the most famous, one of the biggest names in Hollywood,

but also one of the nicest guys in Hollywood.

Hugh Jackman, he and I got together to talk about his latest film, The Front Runner,

in which he plays Gary Hart.

It's the true story about the leading Democratic candidate for president in 1988,

whose campaign you'll remember fell apart after reports of an extra marital

affair, monkey business and all the rest of it.

Hugh opens up in our conversation about preparing for that role in Australian playing

an American politician.

He went right to the source, visiting Gary Hart in Colorado for what he said was an

emotional conversation talking through it.

He also talks about how this was sort of the beginning of something in the

American political media cycle that we still see playing out today.

We also get in with Hugh about playing Wolverine in the X-Bend movies to

becoming a song and dance man on Broadway and the circus leader PT Barnum in the

crazy monster hit, The Greatest Showman, a movie that he worked on for many years

to get made.

And Hollywood wasn't so sure about it until Jackman prevailed eventually.

He also talks about his love for the theater and the nerves he felt taken on

the role of Jean Valjean in Les Miserables, which eventually earned him an Oscar
