Monday was an exciting day. It was a day of giddiness for Washington football fans and many residents of the city as well.

Phil Mendelssohn's been a part of the D.C. City Council since 1998,

and he was elected to the chair in 2012, where he has been for the better part of the last 13 years.

Chairman Mendelssohn, thanks so much for making time. I appreciate it.

So on Monday, which was, you know, quite the press event,

I'm curious as to, you know, where you were on that day.

We'll get to where you are five days later.

But the excitement of that day, what was your reaction in the moment?

Well, I think it's great news that the commanders have finally said what we've thought,

which is that they want to be in D.C. But I also thought, interesting, the deal that

the council has known nothing about, none of the details, including that we would have to vote

in less than two months, I think. You know, there are a lot of details that we would have to vote in less than two months, I think.

You know, there are a lot of details that we don't know at this point and that we need to know.

So where are you five days later? Do you know more details? I mean, the term sheet, the agreement, you know, is out there.

It's public. How far along are you in understanding what the deal is that the mayor cut with the team?

Well, not much farther. Now, I will say that the commanders have reached out, and the commanders have been, I would say, above and beyond wanting to work with the council with the legislative branch

as we try to understand, and they've promised that they will get us more details so that we can better understand.

So you really don't know that much about the deal five days later in terms of what was agreed to.
