Summary

There are many ways to provide a place for birds in the garden. Native gardens provide birds with food and nesting materials, and give gardeners some respite as they let native plants do their thing without much intervention. Grow some berries, think of seasonal timings, avoid poisons and pesticides, and watch the feathers flock!

So now let's talk about how can we make our garden

0:24.7

help those birds, like how do we get them to want to stay maybe once they have

0:29.9

come our garden. So I think one thing in particular that we've done in the past year or so especially is that a lot of native plants and native garden. Now obviously birds will eat what's around them but a lot of birds that are used to being in this area in their native range are probably looking for some native plants because they're familiar with them it's kind of like

0:53.4

built into their instincts and so the native plant garden has been really fun

0:57.6

because we will oftentimes see a lot of birds in there and it's going for things

1:31.9

their seed heads intact and honestly it looks like a

1:35.2

dead stick for the most part that's like the most like number one appealing thing

1:39.7

that everyone wants but what's really wonderful is that the birds absolutely love eating all those white sage seeds.

1:46.0

And I don't have to do anything. I just have to leave it there, let the seeds form, and the birds will do the rest.

1:51.0

So instead of like manicuring and chopping it down,

1:54.1

I allow those birds to have their meal.

1:55.6

And in the wintertime, once there's no seed left,

1:57.8

the plant's really looking sad.
