When John Cena debuted on WW's main roster in 2002, he did so by punching his ruthless

aggression straight into Kurt Angles' face. The idea was to make an immediate impression

and how on earth can you possibly make a better first impression than by literally smacking one of

the top guys in the entire company.

The story kind of continued with Sina moving into an early program with Chris Jericho,

another big name in WWE obviously.

And yeah, after that he did kind of lose his way a little bit.

The character wasn't really getting fleshed out until he

found the Doctor of Fuggonomics gimmick. But the point is, for those first few weeks,

W.W.E. did everything in its power to tell you that this was the guy, to tell you that this

was going to be a guy. He's going to be one of these geysers that's going to be leading the company

for the next X amount of years.

That was the whole purpose of this thing. He wasn't the prototype like he was when he was in

OVW, WW's developmental system at the time. He was there under his real name. He was decked

out in some tights. He had some spiked up here. He was jacked as hell because it's John Sina, he always has been, and he was punching Kurt Angle right in the mouth.

Now obviously, Sina didn't go on to beat Kurt Angle in a series of matches or anything like that, but it definitely was a great way to just have him explode on night one in the company.

It's one of the most iconic debuts in WW of all time and one that is still very fondly spoken about today,

even if you know the ensuing months of creative did not take off as intended.

Fast forward now to 2025 and we are preparing

for the retirement of John Cena.

He has been or was, I guess he's not really this anymore

because he's been part time for quite a while at this stage,
