Please turn your Bibles to Luke chapter six. We are nearing the end of our fall practice

on discovering your identity and calling. To start off, can we just talk about the new Sam Smith record?

Can we do that in church?

All right, so do you have this? I hope you have this. I'm not really even to R&B and I can't stop listening.

This is so good. And I think I can't stop listening. It's so good.

And I think, on a serious though, and I think Sam is,

Sam, we're friends.

I think he is a fascinating case study

for our cultural moment.

So 20-something, grew up in the church, but he's gay.

And so a major theme in his songwriting is wrestling with that tension between his theology and his

sexuality. This song is off the new record. It's called Pray and this second verse

in particular put that lyric up, caught my ear the first time through.

You won't find me in check.
