Hi there, welcome to the What Bit coin did podcast.

I'm over in Ireland this week visiting my father and I don't have my recording equipment which

was something I forgot about so I'm recording this intro straight into my laptop

which I hope comes out okay this interview this week is with Alejandro Makedo, a Venezuelan national

part-time journalist and computer programmer who I started talking to on Twitter a few months, well, I think was about eight weeks ago. It was around the

launch of the Petro and because being a Venezuelan National and a part-time journalist

he was writing about this and I'd read one of his articles I reached out to him and we had a bit of a

chat and for a while we've been trying to organize a time to get together because he also

works in the crypto world and I thought it would be really interesting interview to have on the

podcast.

So with Bitcoin and crypto there is a lot of money being made on speculation, but people

always countering that and saying well there aren't any real use

cases but actually in Venezuela there is people are using Bitcoin to counter the

effects of hyper-inflation so I thought this would be a really useful interview to understand what is happening in the country and the use cases for Bitcoin there.

Sadly, there are some issues with the sound here, which has happened on a few of my previous

podcast but I think I found the gremlin in the works it turns out I've got a

40 microphone so it's a little bit frustrating because there is crackling

through the interview but if you can't bear with it

it's really worth listening to because I think this is a really important interview

that help us understand what the potential is for Bitcoin in a number of countries.

We do focus on the recent history of Venezuela.
