Women won't be punished for seeking or having abortions.

Welcome to this How to Win the Debate episode on explicitly pro-life podcasts.

A common fear tactic around ending abortion is that women will be thrown in jail for

abortions or even miscarriages.

Therefore, we should keep abortion legal in our states.

Representative Eric Sawwell's recent ridiculous campaign ad of a woman being arrested at her home for a past abortion is a prime example of this.

In short, it's simply not true. It's misinformation. It's like Russia interfering with our elections, but Democrats just lying about

pro-lifers. The mainstream pro-life movement never advocates for jailing women who've had or seek

abortions, and certainly not for women who've underwent a spontaneous abortion, i.e. a natural miscarriage, because intent

is completely different with a miscarriage versus a direct abortion. We have always in the

pro-life movement held that women are the second victim of the abortion industry in their

lives. How much jail time is a contrived question that is both deceptive and

desperate, reveals their desperation so clearly. It's deceptive because it ignores what I just

said that the American pro-life movement has always consistently considered the woman a second

victim of abortion. Consider the abortion bans enacted in

South Dakota, as well as the abortion bans with post-row activation clauses that were enacted

once Roe was thrown to the ash heap of history. The Louisiana law, let me read for you a part of the

Louisiana law that bans abortions and Post-Ro America.

Quote, nothing in this section may be construed to subject the pregnant mother upon whom

any abortion is performed or attempted to any criminal conviction or penalty, end quote.
