The latest legal bombshell is just mind-boggling story of how back in the day late 1999 early 2000

Clarence Thomas was on some junk at some place with a bunch of Republicans a resort down in the Virgin Islands I believe it was

and he flew home with US Congressman Cliff Stearns, Republican from Florida, and said if you guys don't raise my salary I'm going to

leave the Supreme Court and others may go with me. We don't know who he was

talking about but you know that was the threat. So Cliff Stearns writes Thomas a letter saying as we agreed it is worth a lot to Americans

to have the Constitution properly interpreted. We must have the proper incentives here too. In other words, okay, we're

going to get you some money, Clarence. Don't worry, don't leave, don't go off to the corporate world. We

need a right-winger like you. And keep in mind, this was in late 1999, early 2000. Who was president then? Bill

Clinton. Bill Clinton was president all the way up until January of 2001. So through the entire year of 2000 and of course all of

1999 Bill Clinton was president and Clarence Thomas was saying if you don't

give me money I'm going to leave the Supreme Court.

And that meant that the conservative majority on the court, which was 5-4 at the time,

would become a conservative minority.

And this is why the billionaires jumped in and started pouring money down Clarence's throat.

Oh, you want your kid to go to a very expensive prep school? We'll do that.

Oh, you want your mother to own her house and have it repaired and and fix up the neighborhood

We'll buy a couple of other houses down the street and fix them up so that your mother's place looks nice
