What is up everyone? We're back. It's a hot day here in San Diego, which is perfect for the

episode we're talking about today, which is going to be techniques for shade cloth.

Now this is something that I probably should learn a little more

about and I'm thankful Stevens here. I chronically underuse things like shade cloth and my

garden has paid the price a bit. I'm growing in a couple different systems right now as well

as some standard raised beds that I'm sure you guys have probably seen if you've checked out the

Instagram. If you haven't, go follow at Epic Gardening. But I chronically underuse preventative and controlling and

environmental altering techniques like shade cloth and you know I can get away with

it if I lose a crop here or there if I burn some some spinach it's

not the biggest deal but for someone like Stephen who's making a living a real

living off of his farm it really is a big deal and so I wanted to talk to him and have him shed some light about how to properly use shade cloth

What types of shade cloth to get and that sort of stuff. So without further ado, let's bring Stephen in.

So this is my first season using it, wow I'm just blown away by how well it works and

the season extension that it gives me. I'm growing beautiful heads of lettuce

under my shade cloth right now I'm growing kale, of lettuce under my shade cloth right now. I'm growing

kale, charred, and my entire salad mix underneath shade cloth. And the shade cloth that I'm

using is a 50-50 all black knit and there's many types of shade cloth. There's some

that have like a reflective ability like it's called aluminette I believe And so there's different versions of shade cloth

that you would use for different reasons.

There's also different levels of shading.

There's, you know, 30% or 70%, there's different ones that you can choose but for most
