Summary

The COVID-19 vaccine has finally arrived and there are, dishearteningly, too many that are on the fence about getting it. This week on Sawbones, Dr. Sydnee and Justin provide a guide for talking with those who are vaccine hesitant and how using a kind, empathetic approach can help them see the light (and the antibodies).

1:12.0	I don't know about you, but I've seen a number of despiriting statistics recently about groups of people being offered the vaccine to COVID-19, but a large percentage of them not just not doing it, not getting it.
1:30.0	Yes.
1:31.0	I've seen it in teachers in West Virginia, healthcare professionals, I've heard in the rumor mill.
1:38.0	I have two, unfortunately. There are a lot of people who are concerned about the vaccine and are refusing it.
1:48.0	I think the thing that is most worrisome about that at this point is that a lot of people who have been offered the vaccine have some level of medical knowledge varying degrees, but not everyone, but a lot of that first group of those offered the vaccine are healthcare workers.
2:06.0	If there are large percentages of healthcare workers, let me clarify something before we move forward.
2:12.0	The majority of healthcare workers are taking the vaccine.
2:15.0	The majority of doctors, nurses, scientists, everybody who is in the medical field and has some knowledge on this, the vast majority do take it.
2:27.0	It's also worth, I think that's important to set the stage.
2:31.0	Most experts, the vast majority of experts agree this vaccine is safe and effective.
2:37.0	The people who are nervous and not taking it are in the minority of those in the medical field.
2:45.0	There's also something of a confounding factor with the healthcare thing that you have mentioned to me where a lot of the people who, not a lot, but a good number actually of the first line responders and the people who are not taking it.
3:00.0	The responders and our front line against COVID have been infected with COVID.
3:05.0	On some level may not be, may think that they're doing a good thing by not getting it right now or think it's less essential than other people getting the vaccine.
