color is perfect the room is transformed exactly as you thought it would be.

And the experience with the contractor went pretty well,

probably because you listened to last week's episode.

That is until it's time to pay.

And as you dip into your precious and dwindling savings account to cut the check, you find

yourself thinking, maybe I should have done this myself. Could I have? Should I have? Do I have the

know-how? Or is that a ridiculous idea? Well, that's exactly the question that has been taunting

our guest from last week, journalist Sam Sanders.

I got some of the walls repainted in the backhouse, and for a while I was like,

I could paint it myself, but I know myself. I would do it badly and hate myself for doing it badly,

and then bring in someone else to fix it.

If you heard our previous episode, you know that Sam does not consider himself very handy,

but he recently bought his first home.

He wants to fix it up, but he doesn't quite know where to start.

So we brought in an expert, Mercury Stardust, a handy person, author, and TikTok star who builds herself as the trans handyman.
