On today's episode, I'm joined by contemporary artist Lucian Smith.

So he earned a degree in fine arts from the Cooper Union School and gained international acclaim very young and quickly

while still in school. In fact a work from his 2011 Cooper Union graduate show was

resold in 2013 for almost $400,000 and that same year another

one of his works sold for almost 250,000 pounds at a softibis auction in London.

So following what seemed like overnight success,

he battled with some of the pitfalls of gaining notoriety

so young and early in his career.

So in 2019 the average sale price

for one of his works at auction was 23,000.

So it was during this period that he launched serving the people, which is a nonprofit whose

mission is to provide young artists with opportunity and support. And he also dates my best friend

Jane.
