The power sector generates the electricity that sustains modern life -- but it's also the number one contributor to climate change. We need a swift and equitable shift to renewable energy, says 2023 Audacious Project grantee and ReNew2030 executive director Rebecca Collyer. In conversation with TED's David Biello, she introduces a new coalition of governments, businesses and communities that aims to drastically scale wind and solar capacity in the 30 highest-emitting countries. 0:42.4	David Renew 2030 is a coalition of regional climate foundations, think tanks and NGOs
0:49.7	working around the world to scale, wind and solar.
0:54.0	Why is this so important in the fight to protect our climate?
0:57.6	Well, because the power sector is responsible for 50% of all the emissions we need to reduce
1:05.0	before 2030.
1:07.1	It needs to go first because we need it to electrify other sectors.
1:13.2	We also need to make sure that the transition is fast as well as first, it needs to go fast.
1:21.8	We've got a window of just seven years, seven years to see those exponential curves hit
1:28.2	the roof and it also needs to be fair.
1:33.1	We need to make sure that the communities involved are consulted deeply on the sighting
1:39.0	of those renewable energy installations.
1:41.3	We need to make sure that the supply chains and the transition minerals are equitably
1:45.1	sourced.
1:46.1	And we also need to make sure that precious finance flows to where it's needed most.
