For me, seventh grade, which was the first year of junior high

where I lived, marks the turning point

for me being a normal kid,

okay with whatever my efforts produced to being obsessed with greatness and this

translated in all facets of my life from getting good grades to how I was

dancing to my own self-righteousness and the ways I pursued music.

Speaking of which, I joined Band as a seventh grader and I decided to play the flute because that's what my older sister already did so we had one and I miss

summer band so I arrived to band the first day of school not knowing a single thing

and it took me about two minutes into the period to realize that I was the bottom of the whole line of flute players which was probably well over 20 at that point.

While I had taught myself to make a sound on the flute before school began all the other

flute players knew at least one full skill so I quickly realized that I had a long way to go and I knew who was at the very top to beat.

Now my determination took over and I practiced around the clock.

I taught myself everything on the flute and I was relentless and

out challenging the girl ahead of her and on and on and on

until I finally got to challenge the first chair of Flautist and I won. Now while that moment was totally exhilarating for me as a 12 year old
