On the line of this is Professor Jason Stanley.

He's the Jacob Yerowski Professor of Philosophy at Yale University, the author of five books including most recently how fascism works the politics of us and them.

Dr Stanley or Professor Stanley, welcome back to the program. It's been about a year I think since we talked and I'm wondering are we there yet?

Well, fascism is talk is certainly much more prevalent in public discourse.

When I published my book in 2018, people said, oh this is an exaggeration your calling you're using words that are extreme

uh... this is just a low point for democracy

but i think

right now you see the effects of fascist ideology and the social

and political movement that is Trumpism on the administration on its institutions and on its reactions to

events very clearly and for that reason we find many people in public life debating whether the term applies.

That said, it's less important to focus on the term and more important to focus on the dangers that confront us.

And those are. the dangers that confront us.

And those are.

Those are, well key to fascist ideology is a denial of reality.

The leader is infallible.

The leader can do no wrong

and fascist lead i think what what we have to look at right now

is not necessarily fascist regimes but

what is it in a fascist outlook that makes reactions to events so
