the director of the emotion and self-control laboratory at the University of Michigan.

0:06.1

What's that mean?

0:08.2

Well, what that means is we get to ask two kinds of questions in my lab.

0:12.9

So, number one, we try to understand how do people work when it comes to managing their emotions.

0:19.3

And we really care about getting in there

0:21.1

to understand the mechanics that underlie what we call emotion regulation. And then the second

0:26.8

kind of question we tackle is, how can we use this understanding of the nuts and bolts that

1:29.1

response. We are truly an emotional species. And yet if you ask people, as I often do in

1:35.0

presentations or what I'm teaching, what's an emotion? People often just stop and they have

1:40.9

trouble answering that question. So let me pose it to you actually before I go give you the,

1:45.5

give you my definition.

1:46.3
