Summary

Breaking Free From the All-or-Nothing Mindset That's Slowing Your Business Growth If you're anything like me, you've probably fallen into the trap of seeing your business in black and white – either it's thriving or failing, and there’s nothing in between! In this episode, I share my personal wake-up call (spoiler: it involves a disastrous 5K run) that revealed how my all-or-nothing mindset was holding me back in business and life. Your brain naturally craves certainty (science confirms this!), but this extreme thinking creates unnecessary pressure and keeps you stuck in perfectionism, waiting for conditions that might never come. The truth is, growth happens in the messy middle where you're taking imperfect action, collecting data, and making strategic pivots.  In this episode, you'll learn practical frameworks to shift out of extreme thinking patterns that are stalling your growth. I'll show you how to reframe missed goals as data collection opportunities, take decisive action, and embrace "phase one" thinking that gets you moving forward. Plus, I share how my own mindset shifts led to launching my Made to Scale Mastermind and Milly Club – opportunities I would have missed if I'd stayed stuck in my all-or-nothing thinking. HERE ARE THE 3 KEY TAKEAWAYS FROM THIS EPISODE: 1️⃣ Mental Flexibility Is Your Superpower – Obstacles don't mean stop, they mean pivot. When launches don't hit goals or team members struggle, resist seeing it as failure and instead look for the adjustments and data that will fuel your next success. 2️⃣ Take Imperfect Action Now – Perfectionism is just procrastination in disguise. Instead of waiting for perfect systems or perfect timing, launch the simplified version, hire before you feel "ready," and treat everything as a data collection opportunity. 3️⃣ Ask Better Questions When You Feel Stuck – When the urge to quit feels overwhelming (which is normal!), ask yourself: "If quitting wasn't an option, what would I do next?" Then take that step, no matter how small, to maintain momentum. When you feel stuck, when you feel the struggle, ask if quitting wasn't an option, what would I do next?

And then, my friend, you do it.

Many, many years ago, I ran my very first and very last 5K. Now, just by saying that,

0:33.5

you could tell I'm not a runner, so I'll just own that. But at the time, I was living in San Diego,

0:40.3

and one of my friends that worked with me at my Tony Robbins job, she said, I want to run a 5K,

0:46.2

will you do it with me? And I thought, I absolutely do not love to run, but I'm just going to say yes.

0:51.2

I was young. I said yes, do a lot of things. Plus, the run was actually in

Santa Barbara where I went to school at UC Santa Barbara. So to go back to my old stomping grounds,

1:01.2

I'm like, this could be fun. We could go out at night, have a good time. I'll do it. So we each trained

1:07.5

for the 5K. We trained separately, but kind of the same way, because at the time we lived

1:12.9

in Pacific Beach, the cool kids call it PB, we lived in PB, and so we could run by the water. Like,

1:20.1

you watch the ocean the entire time. There's this beautiful little trail. So I went early in the

1:24.8

morning because I'm an early bird and she went after work.

1:33.5

But we both trained the same way. Every single morning I got up, put some good tunes on, and I would just run at a total normal pace. And during those morning runs, looking at the ocean, thinking,

1:39.5

this is so cool, I was thinking, you know what, I'm going to commit to running the entire 5K, meaning no

walking. And for those of you who run marathons, you're laughing at me now. Just know, this is a big

1:51.8

deal for me. So I thought, I'm going to run the entire thing. And so when I started to practice,

1:58.7

I wouldn't walk. I would just slow down a little bit

2:01.5

until my pace got a little bit better, a little bit better. And I was running at a pretty good

2:05.4

pace. I was able to do the entire 5K. I'm like, I'm good to go. So the day before the race came,

2:12.1

and we had to drive there. It was a few hour drive. So we got in the car. We had a great time there. We were talking about how like this is
