When you're on an airplane you have a great excuse to disconnect.

With no email or text coming in, at least if you've opted out of the airplane Wi-Fi,

you can focus without distractions.

If you're in a hotel, you're away from family responsibilities

and any house chores that might normally claim your time. Yet I know I've often had the experience

of getting on a plane with the best of intentions and then reading magazines the whole time.

I shut myself in a hotel room intending to get stuff done, and then next thing I know I'm watching four hours of Property Brothers on HG TV.
