Welcome back everyone to the Epic Gardening podcast. I have a really cool week for you

because today we have a local friend of mine, Beth Van Boxel. She's a full-time realtor

here in San Diego and quite a good one at that. But also when she's not being a realtor,

she's growing roses. 120 plus varieties in her backyard. She and I are both members of

the San Diego Rose Society, but also she's a rising star, which is an award given by the

American Rose Society to only a few people in the country and also a certified consulting

Rosarian. And on top of that, she is the person who has gotten me into roses. So, Beth,

it's great to have you on. Thank you. I'm a little bit of an overachiever.

Yeah. No, you certainly are, but I think it's awesome. I might be as well myself. So,

Kendra spirits here. Why don't we start off with I, why don't we kind of go back to

when we met, right? Actually, it was going to be about real estate, but it ended up being

about roses. And I think neither of us are probably too upset about that. And how did you

get me started growing roses? If someone was like me maybe four or five months ago and

they want to get started, where do they even begin? Because it is sort of its own world.

A lot of people that want to start growing roses, usually they need to know how much space

they have to grow. So, I like to ask people if they have a small backyard or just a patio,

or if they have a very large, sprawling acre to acres. So, every type of size of your project

or what you're going to start doing where your rose garden is, you need to know a, how much

sunlight it's going to get. B, do you want fragrant roses for just cutting and putting inside your

house on the table? Or do you want to start growing them to maybe show off at the local county fair

or that's something that I personally do? Or do you want to grow them to make this beautiful

English rose garden or linear rose garden or just, you know, you could start with one rose and
