My guest is Declan Mead, founding editor and publisher of The Stinging Fly, one of the world's premier literary

magazines based in Dublin, Ireland. You might have read about Declan Meade and the Stinging Fly

in the New York Times back in April in a feature story by Max Uffberg.

The Stinging Fly was founded in 1997 by Declan and IFA Kavanaugh, the first issue appearing in March of 1998.

It publishes twice annually and works to give new and emerging writers an opportunity to get their

work out into the world with a special emphasis on the short story form. The Stinging Fly is now

celebrating 25 years of existence and through the decades it has featured some of the best

new writing from Ireland and from around the world,

developing a reputation as one of the most expertly curated literary magazines in existence,

offering an eclectic mix of fiction, nonfiction, and poetry.

In today's episode, I'm going to be talking with Declan Mead about the work that he does day-to-day,

running and maintaining one of the world's most vital literary magazines.

And the hope here is that some of you out there listening will be inspired to start a literary magazine of your own.
