Branch Dividians, or Heaven's Gate. But in actuality,

leaders of cults are able to hide themselves and the cult itself and operate in a much more

insidious fashion. Spotting the warning signs of a cult isn't always an easy feat, and if you're

already in one, it might be extremely

difficult to tell. Education and communication are two key components for keeping ourselves

and our loved ones safe from harmful influences. So how are occults defined? How exactly are

they destructive? And how can people be deprogrammed?

Rick Allen Ross is an author, a cult deprogramming expert, and the executive director

of the cult education institute.
