Marie Lattell was strangled to death at midnight. So the doctors concluded, after she was found the next morning in her parents' parlor.

The doors had been locked, and there were no signs of forced entry, nor of a struggle.

Whoever had killed her, police assumed, Marie had known, trusted, and let inside herself.
