| 0:00.0 | Welcome back to the Jasmine Star Show. I'm incredibly happy you're here. My guest today is Tucker Maxx, the co-founder of Scribe Media. |
| 0:22.0 | This is a company that helps people write, publish, and market their books. He has written four New York Times bestsellers and is only the third writer to ever have three books on the New York Times bestseller list at one time. |
| 0:39.0 | So, if you're interested in writing a book one day and or maybe self-publishing it, Tucker is definitely the guy to tell you how. |
| 0:50.0 | In this interview, Tucker completely schools us. Like, Homeboy took me to school with a notepad and a pen paper and a ruler. You know what? I also had a protractor. That's how far I went back into school. |
| 1:04.0 | He schools us on the reality of getting a book deal. How to decide which type of book you should write, the three steps to self-publishing and the biggest mistakes people make when they're writing their first book and so much more. |
| 1:18.0 | I love how straightforward and actionable this interview is and I can't wait for you to hear it too. |
| 1:26.0 | I am so happy you are here and Tucker, I'm going to start this conversation by something I read on Instagram. |
| 1:35.0 | Lesson I've learned. Maybe the lesson I've resisted the longest but have finally come to accept is this one. We only let ourselves have what we believe we deserve. |
| 1:44.0 | This lesson has many, many hard realizations. Tell me what has been some of the hard realizations for you. |
| 1:52.0 | I'm starting with the light questions aren't you? You know, you know, I'm just telling you like I'm telling you I show up from people I want to make sure that we're out here getting to the real meat of this because listen, I know your time is valuable. You know, so let's dive in. |
| 2:04.0 | No, I'm with you. It's funny because on the pre- or the pre show part, I was like, I've been doing me a 15 years you can't hurt me. |
| 2:11.0 | It's a great question. So once I realized that was true, that we only let ourselves have what we deserve, then I started really looking at my life and I realized that several points in my life, there are two big things that played out for me. |
| 2:31.0 | One is that there were a lot of people in my life who loved me and cared about me and wanted to help me and be there for me and love me even more and I wouldn't let them. I pushed them away. |
| 2:45.0 | Whether it's I can think of a few women specifically that like, I mean, don't get me wrong. I'm married to an amazing woman now, but like I could have married a different amazing woman way earlier and it takes nothing away from my wife at all. It's just like there were multiple situations like that and then romantically friendships, things like that. |
| 3:05.0 | I realized that I had denied myself that. And then in business too, there were sort of there have been opportunities that I've had that at the time I did not realize I was doing this, but I realized like, oh my god, like I didn't take that opportunity because a part of me didn't, I don't know, didn't feel like I was worthy or didn't feel like I could do it or didn't feel like I wouldn't measure up. |
| 3:34.0 | And so I pushed it off to somebody else or I pushed it down or I pushed it away or I just ignored it. And it's painful. It's painful to realize that that like that I could have had a lot more or a lot of the things I haven't had in my life that I could have. I didn't because I wouldn't let myself. |
| 3:55.0 | Oh, okay. So you are a big proponent and the reason we're having this conversation is we're talking about self publishing, but like let's let's kind of tap here for a second because there are many people who are listening who want to they have a message and they think that a book would be a really great way to get that out. |
| 4:11.0 | How then do you tell somebody how then to say learn from what I have because I want to make sure that we let everybody know that you're one of four people who's ever had three books on the New York Times bestseller list at one time. |
| 4:22.0 | So it's kind of like the audience is coming into your world like you have and have done something that's so unique. |
| 4:28.0 | So how do you describe that experience, but then how do you route it in the fact that like some people don't believe that they can have what they believe they deserve. |
| 4:37.0 | Right. So they won't let them have they won't let themselves have what they don't believe they deserve. |
| 4:42.0 | So they a lot of people we have to it's funny. Jasmine when I started this company five years ago we've done at this point 1600 books and like some really big ones like David Goggins book can't hurt me and Tiffany had his book and and a bunch of other big bestsellers and when I first started this I had been writing professionally at that point for like whatever 15 years 12 to 15 years. |
