Summary

Shannon is set to become an ordained minister—but she has always struggled with public speaking. Here's the thing: She's fine in front of large gatherings. In smaller gatherings, however, she mentally "freezes up" and rambles until she regains her train of thought. As Shannon prepares to start interacting with a congregation, Courtney Martin sits her down with former How To! host Charles Duhigg, author of Supercommunicators: How to Unlock the Secret Language of Connection. Charles gives Shannon the tools to understand others and be understood herself.

Second Thought is a weekly show about pop culture. The stuff everyone's been binging, arguing about, obsessing over. Here's the thing about heated rivalry. I mean, even the most devoted swifties, I think we can agree, not our best work. We'll be hosting thoughtful conversations with culture's most important figures. Talk about genius.

To be clear, this isn't your average case of stage fright.

Shannon actually doesn't mind speaking in front of a large group of people when she has time to prepare.

Instead, this particular hang-up comes from talking to smaller groups of people.

I think this has been a struggle for me for a long time, but it didn't really like show itself until I was in grad school. It's a lot of just like open conversation and
