Welcome back to the Nutrition Science Podcast. I'm your host, Dr. Adrian Chavez,

0:22.6

and today we are going to be discussing how to reverse pre-diabetes. Now, I know those are some

0:28.7

bold claims, but I feel confident in making them for a variety of reasons. So first off,

0:35.1

pre-diabetes is the topic that I specialized in during my PhD. I spent four

0:40.3

years reading, researching, writing papers, answering comprehensive exam questions, which were

that a lifestyle intervention with individuals who were diagnosed with prediabetes was able to

1:42.4

reduce their progression to type 2 diabetes by 60%, which

1:46.1

was better than medication. It was better than any other way to approach it. And this was eye-opening

1:51.3

to me because it showed me that this combination of nutrition and exercise and lifestyle could

1:56.8

have profound effects on people's health. And so I got really interested in that topic

2:02.2

during my PhD. That's all I studied. I've talked about it quite a bit after my PhD as well.

2:07.8

I've worked with lots of clients with pre-diabetes, type 2 diabetes on improving their blood
