Welcome to how to. I'm Courtney Martin. That was President Donald Trump speaking at the White House on March 11th, when he effectively turned it into a Tesla showroom. He also made a show of buying a Tesla Model S at the event. Why? Tesla's stock price had fallen more than 40% since January. Some of that drop can be attributed to uncertainty about potential tariffs and increased competition in the electric vehicle space, but some of it is no doubt due to consumer protests following Elon Musk's recent public statements and actions.

Now, as most of you no doubt remember, the public narrative started flipping on Musk a few years ago,

with his grand promises about a troubled prototype called the Cyber Truck,

which would debut to lukewarm sales and vast recalls.

He also bought, gutted, and turned Twitter, now X, into a space where hate speech

flourishes. Things continued to ramp up as Musk sidled up to Trump and inserted himself

and his far-right ideology into U.S. politics. His new role in the Trump White House has given his

racist, sexist, anti-trans views, even more sway, power which he's used recklessly.

Most recently, he's taken his position at the Department of Government Efficiency or Doge and slashed vital jobs and programs.

Since Tesla is Elon and Elon is Tesla, this all has become quite the conundrum for Tesla owners who don't want to be associated with Elon's views and actions, like today's

listeners. I'm Vivian. I live in Salt Lake City, and I own a Tesla that I'd like to get rid of.

I'm Jessica, and I live in Northern California, and I also have a Tesla I'm considering getting

rid of. Both Vivian and Jessica own a Tesla Model Y. It's the one you think of when you think

of Tesla. It's the world's best-selling EV, and by some metrics, the best-selling car in the world, period.

Essentially, it's considered the benchmark for EVs in terms of practicality, size, and performance range.
