This is today explained, I'm Sean Ramosperum, and I wish I were shocked yesterday when

I saw the news of a mass shooting at an elementary school in Uvalde, Texas.

I was devastated, I felt powerless, but I did not feel shocked, because the United States

hasn't done anything significant since Columbine, since Virginia Tech, since Sandy Hook,

since Orlando, since Vegas, since Parkland, since El Paso, since Buffalo, to stop this.

This is a country where you have to wake up every day and go out into the world knowing

there's a non-zero chance you might get murdered by a stranger for no reason at all, and

most of us are resigned to that fact, and it's easy to just give up.

But on the show today, one of my colleagues here at Vox who has lived through a school

shooting herself is going to tell us why we shouldn't.

There's something so romantic about winter, and I don't know whether that's just because

I'm a bit of a homebody and I love a five, but I think it's just the holiday period,

it's just for me, it's the most romantic period, and I think anyone who's listened to my

records will know that I'm quite a big fan of romance.
