Less than 20 years ago if you wanted to apply for multiple jobs, you would have to fill out hundreds of separate applications BY MAIL, hope it didn't get lost, and wait weeks to hear back with a response. Now you can send thousands of direct messages in a matter of hours to your biggest inspirations and hear back instantly if you pique their interest enough. The key to standing out though is having something done and ready to SHOW them what you are capable of rather than just saying you are willing to do anything for free.
