Summary

How do you know when it's the right time to hire someone? Whether you think you need help now or you simply have an eye to the future, today's episode is all about hiring a staff to grow your speaking career.

On episode 86 of The Speaker Lab, I'll be sharing my personal staffing journey: who I hired, when I hired them and how I paid them.

I'll also answer the most pressing hiring questions we all have as speakers: do we need to hire someone? How do we know if we can trust them? How should they get paid? Can we afford the expense of staff?

Listen in for the answers to those questions, and much more on today's solo episode of The Speaker Lab.

THE FINER DETAILS OF THIS SHOW:

  • How do you know if you even need to hire someone?
  • What is the most valuable resource and commodity we all have?
  • The 3 list exercise to help you figure out what to hire for when you're ready.
  • Cash is king in a new what?
  • Why selling has to be your top priority, and can never be outsourced.
  • Where to find the right person to hire, and how to know they are a fit.
  • Why doing a 30 day or 60 day trial run with a new hire is important.
  • Why not to hire someone full-time right away.
  • And so much more!

hiring staff. Enjoy. All right, my friend. So this is a question that I got recently and one

2:00.5

that I get from time to time from people who are basically wondering, what should be your first hire as a speaker and what is it that they should do? You know, as the business continues to grow and expand and you have a lot more on the plate and a lot less time to fulfill your obligations and what it takes to run the business, this is a place where a lot of speakers and entrepreneurs get to where they're going, okay, I'm interested in hiring, but I just have no idea how to go about that process. And again, I think it's something that a lot of speakers that we just have a difficult time with. We like the idea of having someone to help us in our business, maybe even get a handle on things that

2:34.5

we don't like to do or things that we're not good at or things we just don't want to do,

2:38.6

but we worry about how we're going to pay for that person, where do we find that person,

2:42.2

can we trust that person, can we afford someone on and on, the list goes. I know for me personally

2:47.5

several years ago, I was at an entrepreneurial, yeah, let's go with that entrepreneurial conference.

2:53.2

I was listening to a session about hiring and building your team.

2:56.7
