Walliser on the podcast that was a fantastic fantastic week. I learned a lot. I hope you did too. Today we are going to talk a little bit about

Tumorick, which is honestly a sleeper hit for me in the garden this year. I had a little small crop of it and hopefully in 2021 I'll be planting out a lot more. There's a couple spots in my yard. I think it'll work really well for. So let's talk about how to grow it.

Tumric is grown much in the same way that you would grow ginger. It is grown from

the rhizome or the tuberous root or underground buried stem of the plant.

So very much like ginger in fact almost identical,

but let's talk about it. How do you actually grow this bad boy?

I would say the most critical part of growing turmeric is the timing of it.

It's a very long season crop about nine or ten months. Of course it wants to be in

a more tropical area but you can you can do this even if you're in a colder zone.

So the best way to do this is figure out your first frost and then just count back 10 months.

Most of us, we have to plant indoors in January or February

if that's the case because we just don't have nine or 10 months of conditions.

You don't want cool soil, you want nice warm soil. Remember again it's a tropical

plant. Okay so where to actually plant it? You want to plant it either in a raised

or in-ground bed again with warmer

So sometimes that means in a raised bed so the soil is just slightly warmer than in ground.

So if you're in a milder climate, then you want to plant it in a pot probably

that can be moved indoors when necessary. Otherwise otherwise you're just not going to have a

long enough season. As for how to plant it you want to choose nice rhizomes you want to choose

large ones that have a couple different bud locations along the side.
