If you've ever been confused by Marjoram thinking that it is oregano or thinking that they're

one in the same, then you would be forgiven because I would say that this was confusing to me for quite a while when I started gardening.

Nevertheless, Marjoram is one of my favorite culinary herbs to always have on hand.

It's great for Italian cooking, great for Greek cooking, and really can

make almost any dish taste absolutely amazing, provided you do have to like the flavor, but I would

say most people are at the very least fond of it.

Now the scientific name for Marjram, it's Oregonum Madjurana and it is commonly known as of course

Marjram, sweet Marjram or knotted Marjram.

It is a Mediterranean herb, also native to North Africa,

but it is also believed to have origins in Western Asia.

So you would be forgiven, as I said,

for confusing it with oregano.

They're both from the genus Oregonum

in the Mint family, Lamiesia, but they are different species, completely different species.

Margarum is Oregonum is Oregonum Madgerana and Oregono is Oregonum Vulgarae.

So the real big differences are their flowers and their flavor.

Marjurum flower buds will open up to white or purple,

whereas oregano is typically pink.

Flavor-wise, they're going to have similar base notes, but oregano is much pink. Flavor-wise, they're gonna have similar base notes,

but oregano is much stronger,

it is much spicier,

and it requires a highly flavored food
