0:13.0	You know the single-minded one, the one who no matter what the question is,
0:18.0	always finds a way to make the answer whatever it is she's single-minded about.

0:26.3	And the thing that I'm single-minded about is racism.
0:30.7	If someone were to ask me, so Janet, got any plans for the Fourth of July, I'm subject to answer, yeah, I'm going to binge watch roots. Or if they said, Janet, I got a joke for you. Why did the chicken cross the road?
0:44.2	Was it a black chicken? Probably gentrification.
1:02.0	But for me, single-mindedness is not just caring about something. It's caring about something enough to do something about it.
1:06.0	It's not just thinking, it's doing.
1:10.0	It's not just praying. it's doing. It's not just praying.
1:11.6	It is moving your feet.
1:14.9	And the reason I'm single-minded about racism
1:17.8	is because I know single-mindedness can destroy it.
1:22.6	I learned that many, many years ago.
1:24.9	Back in 1984, I was a junior at Davidson College in Davidson, North
1:29.6	Carolina. Now, Davidson is a little bitty town, southern town, split by railroad tracks. White
1:36.0	Davidson on one side, black Davidson on the other side. And as black students living on the white
1:41.3	side of the tracks, we got used to being stopped in downtown and asked for ID
1:46.0	until the police memorized our faces.
1:50.0	But fortunately, that didn't take too long
1:52.1	because out of 1,200 students, only 52 of us were black.
