Good afternoon. My name is Brittany Brathway and I am the organizing and innovation manager

at Girls for Gender Equity. Thank you for joining us for the School Girls Reserve campaign

press conference on Title IX and Gender Discrimination in New York City Public Schools. Thanks

to the efforts of this City Council, we are lucky to have strong protections for women

and trans and gender not conforming folks in the city at large. But our schools and

the 1.1 million New Yorkers who attend them every day are being left out. Changes to

our education system cannot wait any longer.

studio with us with some reporting to share. Hey Abigail. Hey y'all. All right Abigail,

tell us what you've been up to. It sounds like you actually left our podcast cousin.

I sure did. You guys let me out. No, I went to a rally, which is what you guys just heard

at the top there. And it was hosted by an advocacy organization called Girls for Gender Equity.

It was on the steps of City Hall in New York City, which is where I live. And that rally

was all about an important piece of legislation called Title IX. And just FYI for those

of y'all who aren't familiar, Title IX is this federal law that prohibits gender discrimination

in education. And for the past few years, though, it seems like we've been hearing a lot about it.
