recently with Doc Emmerich. The NHL season is getting off to a strong start so far this year and I had a chance to speak to Doc Emmerich when we both got inducted into the National Sports Media Hall of Fame back in June.

You'll hear that conversation, including his great memory of an NFL play-by-play moment that absolutely shocked me and I think you'll get a kick out of it too.

But first, I want to just go over two things about officiating before we start with Ed Werder that are particularly

bothersome to me.

And the first thing is that when the NFL met in March and redid the rules and basically allowed coaches to appeal and challenge pass interference calls. Both plays that they believed

were pass interference and were not called on the field and pass interference calls that they believed were false.

When the NFL did that, there was nothing written in the rule that said that we're only going to call these in playoff games or in mega games.

It said that if there was a clear and obvious foul or a clear and obvious reason to change an obvious
