Mapping Brazil's neighborhoods.

I'm Lily Jramale. A decade ago a reporting trip took me to a favela in Rio. These low-income

communities in Brazil's major cities are densely populated and

yet when I looked up Vidi-Gull on Google Maps I saw no addresses, no streets,

just a gray box.

That favela has since been mapped.

Now there's a push to expand services

to favelas across the country.

The BBC's Ben Darica reports from San Paolo.

South America's largest city.

Some 12 million people call it home.

But almost 3.5 million of those residents live on the peripheries of the city in

unofficial towns known here as Fabelas. Basic government services like

trash collection and even the post office are often not available here.

Hurtles like these have led over 70% of Favell residents to give up on buying online,

according to the Locomativa Institute, a Brazilian research firm.

so he had troubles trying to receive their products at home.
