Summary

Have you ever felt bad about feeling bad?

We often feel shame for feeling anything negative. We think, “If I’m not happy, that means something is wrong with me.”

The truth is there’s no way to avoid negative feelings in life, but there are some things you can do to help yourself understand them and even embrace them.

In this episode I’m joined by Zakia Haughton, CEO and business systems extraordinaire, to talk about how getting truly in touch with your feelings can make everything in your life flow with more ease.

In this episode you’ll hear:

  • How Zakia got to the place of embracing ease and flow in her own life, and why she says it’s about so much more than balance [1:10]

  • Why she says that experimentation and curiosity has played a key role in her personal journey [5:12]

  • The ways we can use nature to guide us through our “seasons” [10:41]

  • Specific practices Zakia uses to break feelings of discomfort, and an experience she had that showed her that no feeling is permanent [23:55]

  • Why she has always had issues with the concept of “perfection” [40:07]

  • A powerful gift that Zakia has been giving herself lately, and why she realized this needed to happen [45:20]

  • A final reminder on why we shouldn’t be resisting our feelings when they arise [48:22] Zakia’s

I'm Melissa Griffin and while I was in my 20s, I turned a hobby blog into a multi-million

dollar company. Now, what I've discovered after working with thousands of entrepreneurs is that

0:10.6

the greatest thing standing in the way of success isn't another business tactic or marketing

0:16.3

strategy. It's your own mindset. Now, I believe that you're meant for more than just the status quo.

0:23.2

So on this show, you'll feel like you're sitting down with a friend who's here to help you transform your fears and roadblocks into a truly limitless version of yourself.

It's time to upgrade your life and business from the inside out.

0:38.6

Let's do this.

0:47.1

I would love to start by, you know, for anybody who's not familiar with your journey and your story, and I know now you just embody so beautifully, this concept and way of being

0:52.6

of embracing ease and flow and living from that place,

0:57.6

especially in business. What was it like in your life or your journey before you started embodying

1:04.4

that? And then how did you get to this place of really embracing ease in your life?

1:09.2

Yeah, that's a really good question. So before I arrived at the

1:13.2

place where I am right now with embracing ease, I was not operating in ease. I was honestly

1:19.7

living a life that I was trying to figure out and I was trying to navigate what balance

1:26.3

looked like for me in that season.

1:29.7

And after trying to find my balance in both my life and in my business and in my

1:35.1

relationships, I realized that balance is actually not the goal.

1:40.5

Balance was actually not what I was desiring because the way I was thinking about it in my mind,

1:45.7

it was almost as if every area of my life needed to have equal amounts of joy and equal amounts

1:54.0

of peace and equal amounts of all of these things when the reality is that it's not about

2:00.2

necessarily, at least for me, it's not

2:02.3

about equal amounts in all the areas, but it's about moving with fluidity in all of those
