Summary

Discussing the Effects of Climate Change (Without Discussing Politics)   Unfortunately, climate change and its effects are polarized topics in today’s hyper-political environment. And although climate change is considered by many to be a partisan issue, it shouldn’t be, because the environment is for everyone, regardless of political affiliation, socioeconomic status, or skin color. And while journalism has tremendous influence on public understanding, the sad reality is that the media is not adequately educating about the effects of climate change.... Well, hello there and welcome back. My name is Stephanie Safarian and you were listening to

0:06.4

episode 143 of the Sustainable Minimalized Podcast. On today's show, we are discussing not only why it's important to talk to

0:16.3

others about environmental issues but we're also discussing how to do it.

0:21.6

Unfortunately climate change is a polarized topic in today's hyper political environment,

0:29.6

right? As of this recording, we are 40 days away from a major national election here in the

0:37.1

United States. So not only is the election close, but also we're living in this crazy political time where you're on one side or you're on the

0:49.2

other side there's really not so much of a middle ground, right?

0:53.0

But although climate change is considered by many these days to be a partisan issue,

1:01.0

I don't believe it should be because the environment is for everybody, regardless of where you

1:06.3

fall on the political spectrum.

1:10.0

And I had the idea for this episode in the back of my mind because when I try and verbalize my

1:20.0

care and concern for the planet with others in my own personal life. I often find myself

1:26.7

spluttering and sputtering and falling over my words and not being able to get out what I'm wanting to say in a way that is, in a way that makes any sense.

1:38.0

So I thought if I'm having that trouble, you might be as well.

1:42.0

Now on today's show we're doing two things. The first

1:45.4

thing is we are discussing why we all really do need to get our words right and

1:51.2

speak about environmental issues with those people in our lives and that's

1:55.6

because the media actually isn't doing so great of a job. So that's part one of today's episode and on part two I'm telling you how to talk, how to do it with three

2:07.2

really concrete strategies with some talking points and my hope today is that by the end of the episode you will leave rip-roaring

2:16.5

and ready to discuss climate change, discuss global warming, discuss environmental issues with those people in your life

2:25.8

and maybe even those people in your life that may not fall on the same side of the political spectrum as you. Now this week's show notes you can find

2:36.9

them at mama minimalist.com forward slash one four three that's mamA-M-A-M-A-M-M-A-M-M-A-M-M-M-M-A-M-M-M-M-M-A-M-M-M-M-M-A-M-M-M-M-M-M-M-M-O-O-M-O-O-O-O-O-O-O-O-O-O-O-O-O. One, why do we all need to step up and be vocal? Why can we not stay silent?
