James chapter 1. This book was written to the Jewish people who were scattered all over the place.

There was a time in Israel, a ruled their own land and they had their kings like David and Solomon.

Those times were over. Now the occupying force was Rome.

They were effectively under the control of the Caesars and the various Roman governors.

And they were suffering and they were unhappy. So the book of James was written for suffering people.
