Summary

This week we're getting personal!
Matt is upping the vulnerability scale, as he lets the closest people in his life – colleagues, friends, and even his wife – fire a round of constructive criticism his way.
Getting feedback about your flaws is extremely scary. But it's a powerful way to identify the things you need to work on. And if Matt can do it, so can all of you listening!
Wherever you are in your addiction recovery journey, mental health journey, or general self development journey, this is a pitstop you'll want to take note of.

Hello everybody. How you doing? This is Matt and you're listening to On the Mend. Welcome back. We've got another solo episode today.

0:15.4

And I've been starting all my solo episodes with my gratitude list. I know you've heard me bang on about this, but it's something which I find really important. And I think if you wanted to implement in your life,

0:25.4

might be positive to you too. So I started every episode by saying, today I am grateful for

0:31.2

and then I list some things which I'm grateful for. So I purposely didn't do one this morning

0:36.5

so I can be fresh and do this kind of live.

0:40.2

So today I'm grateful for, I'm grateful for my health. I have had a few things going on in my life

0:49.0

recently where some other people are dealing with some health issues, which is scary.

0:55.3

And I don't think you ever kind of can really expect and will always take you a little bit by surprise.

1:01.6

And I'm worried and scared about those things.

1:06.1

And I'm trying to be supportive and strong, but also worried and scared about those things too but i'm i am

1:12.1

grateful the fact that i am healthy and um and that's not and i feel guilty for saying that now

1:18.7

which is weird because other people are dealing with stuff you know but um i am grateful that i am

1:23.1

fit and healthy today so there's one or didn't expect their response. Changing the tone slightly.

1:28.4

I'm grateful for my dishwasher, right, because I just got a new dishwasher. My dishwasher broke

1:33.7

in my house, right? And until something like that happens, you don't realize how much you take it for

1:40.1

granted. And we didn't have a dishwasher for a couple of weeks and it was a nightmare for me

1:45.9

because man I hate washing dishes and I am terrible at it and I found that really difficult to

1:53.5

deal with and it would cause me stress and make me a bit angry every time I walk in and see dishes

1:57.9

piled up and I know that I have to do it not that no one else else did. You know, Emma was really good at that kind of stuff, you know, but sometimes it's my job. And I would resent it, you know, and I really kind of really hated doing that. So I'm very, very grateful that I'm lucky enough to have another dishwasher. And we've got one in the house. It's all set up. It's working great.

2:18.5

So I'm very pleased I get to not have to get angry at washing dishes anymore.

2:24.3

Next thing I am grateful for. I'm grateful the sun is out. Do you know what? It makes such a difference
