Summary

Carrie Meghie is an entrepreneur with over 25 years of experience behind her.  She is also the founder of a foundation bearing the namesake of her son: Jackson Chance Foundation.

Ms. Meghie and her husband founded the Jackson Chance Foundation in 2013, a non-profit that supports critically ill babies by removing the financial burden of parking fees, giving every family the opportunity to be with their child in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) In 2020, the foundation will provide over 90,000 days of parking to families at Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago, Northwestern Medicine Prentice Women’s Hospital and Rush Children’s Hospital. The nonprofit has raised over $5.4MM to date.

Tune into this episode of Dear FoundHer… for a conversation about how Carrie used her business skills to build a legacy in remembrance of her son, Jackson. Learn more about the importance of staying true to your mission, being resourceful, and not being afraid to ask others for their support.

Quotes

• “I'm not going to be that poor woman who lost her child. I felt like that would be such a dishonor to Jackson.” (10:07-10:13) [Carrie]

• “The biggest and most important decision that we made was that we decided we were going to provide parking and only parking. We had a lot of people calling and calling us asking for other things, but we stayed true to our mission.” (19:57-20:15) [Carrie]

• “We are very clear on what we provide. Our impact is clear. Where your money goes is clear so there's no confusion. And the feedback from our donors has been very positive and they think that is something that sets us apart and makes them feel really secure in donating to us.” (20:21-20:40) [Carrie]

• “With one employee, board members, and all volunteers, we have to be really smart with our resources.” (27:52-27:55) [Carrie]

• “My hope and dream is that when I leave this earth, I would love to know that parking will be covered at the major Chicago hospitals in perpetuity.” (32:04-32:16) [Carrie]

• “One of the things that I found most frustrating was when people talked around it. Don’t be afraid to just ask for support or donations, and then also be okay with someone saying no.” (39:44-39:59) [Carrie]
